"The Shining" is the 1980 mystery/psychological horror film which has the "Here's Johnny!" bathroom door scene. That line was ad-libbed by Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) as an imitation of Ed McMahon's TV intro for "The Tonight Show". The imitation was directly from announcer Ed McMahon's famous introduction of Johnny Carson on the US network NBC-TV's long-running late night television program, starring Johnny Carson. In the film, Nicholson busts through a bathroom door with an ax and shouts, “Here's Johnny! The thing about this scene, as scary as it is, to this day, it still gets the heart racing. And, some young people might not get it; they may not realize that Nicholson is actually referencing to McMahon and "The Tonight Show".

In "The Shining", when Jack has clearly gone mad and is chopping down the bathroom door with an ax to get to his wife, why does Nicholson say "Here's Johnny!" when his character's name is Jack? Fans and film experts say that it is completely random and it shows how Jack is so insane that he's just saying random names (John for Jack). He has lost touch with part of his personal reality.

"The Shining" is a film which was produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. He also co-wrote the screenplay with novelist Diane Johnson. The film is based on Stephen King's 1977 novel 'The Shining'. There has been a good deal of speculation about items disclosed in the film. Film critics and pundits have pointed to inconsistencies and ambiguities from the book.
