Which is the only state that recognizes a state spider?

The Carolina Wolf Spider was named South Carolina’s official state spider back in 2000. It is currently the only state that recognizes a state spider.

The Carolina Wolf Spider (also known as the Giant Carolina Wolf Spider) is the largest wolf spider in North America and is one of the largest species of wolf spiders found worldwide. This massive creepy creature is 3-4 inches in length and lives across the US and southern Canada.

Wolf spiders have a tendency to hunt at night and they also hunt alone. They are camouflage in color and are known for being great mothers. Another interesting fact about the wolf spider is that it ranks 3rd for best eyesight; only behind the jumping spider and the huntsman spider. A sure way of spotting a wolf spider in the dark is by focusing a flashlight at eyelevel of the spider; its eyes are reflective to light!

Gee, I have lived in South Carolina for 18 years and did not know this, never even heard of the spider. I'm glad I have not run across one of them!!! 🙄

Actually, North Carolina also recognizes a state spider. (Banana or golden wolf spider). SC was the 1st state (in 2000) to recognize an arachnid. NC recognized it in 2017. So either would be correct.

I encountered a jumping spider once. The ant spray stunned it. I was amazed at all of its eyes! I threw it outside.

ninakamwene, I on the other hand love them all away from me. A friend I had many years ago wanted me to hold his Boa.. I had gotten the nerve to touch it when it wasn't looking at me.. He said now hold it and I said no don't think you'd want me to as you love your snake. If it made one wrong move I'd give it flying lessons. Lol Another friend had a huge one in a big ceiling to floor cage but I never touched that one..I felt sorry for one as a person I knew had this poor snake just lawn variety kind and they would not feed or water it Right.. I watered him through the screen top into his very dry water bowl.. As I too like my Dad believe we all have lives to live and purposes on this earth. A state here has a rattlesnake guy who will remove it from your home and take it off to the wilderness instead of killing it.. I liked watching that show for awhile till it went off that is..

Gross I had to touch that to move the screen..ugly..I don't like spiders, snakes or rats anywhere near me. Outside and elsewhere OK we all got lives to live and a purpose as Dad would say..
