Finnish and Swedish are the official languages of Finland. Finnish predominates nationwide while Swedish is spoken in some coastal areas in the west and south and in the autonomous region of Åland. The native language of 90% of the population is Finnish, which is part of the Finnic subgroup of the Uralic languages. Swedish is the native language of 5% of the population (Swedish-speaking Finns).

In Europe there are many countries in close proximity and it is easy to find people that are fluent in 5 or more languajes. Here in the USA we have 2 choices; "Canadian" or Spanish, unless we go into the native languages like Navajo, Lakota...get it? I was in the military in Germany and I learned not only German, but also Italian, Greek and Turkish. To get along in Los Angeles you need to pick up Spanish, (#1), Korean, Japanese, Chinese...on and on otherwise you are a looser. Tagalog, Armenian,....it is open and endless. Be a Good American, learn at least 5 languages and you will go from passenger to pilot. Entiendes?
