This book was a reinterpretation of Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'. The film adaptation stars Renée Zellweger as Bridget, Hugh Grant as the caddish Daniel Cleaver, and Colin Firth as Bridget's "true love", Mark Darcy.

The film's plot begins with the start of a new year. A 32-year-old Bridget (Zellweger) decides that it's time to take control of her life. She starts to keep a diary. Now, the most provocative, erotic, and hysterical book on her bedside table is the one that she's been writing. With a taste for adventure, and an opinion on every subject - from exercise to men to food to sex and everything in between - she's turning pages on a whole new life.

The movie was directed by Sharon Maguire and produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. It received positive reviews and was a commercial success, grossing over $280 million US dollars worldwide. Zellweger was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film.
