Which of the following plants is the first to emerge from under the snow in early spring?

Snowdrops (Galanthus) are hardy perennial, winter-flowering plants that are often heralded as the first sign of spring. They flower whatever the weather – they will even push through frozen, snow-covered ground.

Although known for their small, white bell-shaped flowers there’s an incredible range of snowdrops to grow. Snowdrop fanatics will ‘collect’ different varieties, featuring flowers in different sizes and with different markings, color changes and numbers of petals.

In Canada, we usually see crocuses first.

Actually some yearsn ago I had a clump of daffodils come up before Christmas, long before the Snowdrops, and in the winter just gone a friend of mine had daffs flowering in January. But our seasons are heavily modified by the Gulf Stream so we rarely have snow anyway.

The the discussion about different flowers may be interesting. But I have never seen snow in my life. Excepting pictures of course. So snowdrops seemed the logical answer to me.

Our have come and gone . We now have Daffodils, Hellebores, Primroses, Polyanthus, Violas, Hyacinths, and Perryiwinkel Flowers out in our Garden . We get Spring early here in South Devon UK . I Love Springtime . Sitting on my Terrence in the warm Morning Sun .
