Andy Griffith (June 1926 – July 2012) is the U.S. TV star who has never won an Emmy Award. This is one honor which was denied him. Concerning the Emmy Award, Griffith was nominated only once, for his role in the TV movie “Murder in Texas.” “The Andy Griffith Show” itself, though nominated three times, also never won an Emmy.

Andy Griffith was an actor, comedian, television producer, Southern Gospel singer, and writer of books. His professional acting career in TV and film spanned seven decades. Plus, he enjoyed making music when he was not totally focused on a television or movie project. Known for his southern drawl, he often played characters with a folksy-friendly personality that went well with a gruff and gregarious voice. He is best known for his starring roles in two very popular television series, "The Andy Griffith Show" (1960) and "Matlock" (1986).

Griffith was born and named Andy Samuel Griffith on June 1, 1926 in Mount Airy, North Carolina, USA. He died on July 3, 2012 from a heart attack at the age of 86 at his coastal home in Manteo, Roanoke Island, in Dare County, North Carolina.
