Hugh Dancy (b. 1975) is an English actor who did not play Hannibal Lecter in either a movie or TV series. He is a person who rose to prominence for his acting as the 2000 titular character in the TV film adaptation of "David Copperfield" as well as for roles in the feature films "Black Hawk Down" (2001) and "Ella Enchanted" (2004). He was respectively Sergeant First Class (SFC) Kurt "Doc" Schmid, a soldier in the military and Prince "Char" Charmont, the son of the late king and heir to the throne.

Hugh Michael Horace Dancy (Hugh Dancy) was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, to Sarah Ann (Birley), who works in academic publishing, and Jonathan Peter Dancy, a philosophy professor and writer.

Dancy got his initial acting roles in TV series: "Dangerfield" (1995), "Kavanagh QC" (1995) "Trial & Retribution" (1997), and the very popular "Cold Feet" (1997). Other TV jobs included acting roles in "Relic Hunter" (2000) and the BBC's "Madame Bovary" (2000) and "Daniel Deronda" (2002).

Prior to Dancy's role in "Black Hawk Down", he played D'Artagnan in the 2001 film "Young Blades". He also had starring roles in "Tempo" (2003) and "The Sleeping Dictionary" (2003). In 2004, he played "Sir Galahad" in "King Arthur" (2004). A later acting role in 2013 included Will Graham (Dancy) in the acclaimed NBC series "Hannibal".

Anthony Hopkins, Brian Cox, and Mads Mikkelsen have each played the character of Hannibal Lecter in either a movie or TV series.
