To avoid confusion, the latter is also called a former child actor. Based upon his career, Richard Gere (b. August 31,1949) was never a child actor. Gere is an American actor who began acting in films in the 1970s. He had a supporting role in "Looking for Mr. Goodbar", a 1977 American crime drama. He next got a starring role besides Brooke Adams in "Days of Heaven", a 1978 American romantic period drama film. He finally came to prominence with his role in the 1980 neo-noir crime drama "American Gigolo", which established him as a leading man and a sex symbol.
