A ''nacelle'' is a streamlined body what contains engine, fuel or equipment on an aircraft. In World War II-era P38 Lightning was an aircraft where cockpit housed in a ''nacelle'. The Arado Ar 234 was an operational jet aircraft with engines mounted in ''nacelles''. General Electric and NASA have developed ''nacelles'' to reduce engine noise of commercial aircraft.

''Nacelles'' may be used to house equipment that will only function remote from the fuselage (mainbody section). Boeing E-3 Sentry radar is housed in a ''nacelle''. It is an American airborne early warning and control aircraft developed by Boeing. It provides all-weather surveillance, command, control and communications. The E-3 is distinguished by the distinctive rotating radar dome above the fuselage. Production ended in 1992 after 68 aircraft had been built. In March 1977, the first E-3 Sentry was delivered.

Edward Turner (an English motorcycle designer) used the ''nacelle'' to describe his motorcycles in 1949 to tidy the area around the head lamp and instrument panel of his Trump Speed Twin.
