The Mysterious Affair at Styles, was Agatha Christie’s first ever detective novel. It was written in 1916, and was first published in the United Kingdom 21st January 1921.
In this book, Christie introduces detective Hercule Poirot, a Belgian refugee of the Great War, Arthur Hastings, and Inspector Japp.
Hercule Poirot is settling in England near the home of Emily Inglethorp, who helped him to his new life in England. His friend Hastings also arrives as a guest at her home. When the woman is killed, Poirot uses his detective skills to solve the mystery.

Something that happens in almost every Poirot book: A person dies. Poirot is invited to investigate. Another person dies. (and sometimes another) Poirot finally catches the criminal.
I really used to hope Poirot will catch the murderer before another innocent man dies, but it never happens.
But I can never really blame Poirot. He's too funny sometimes.
