Which prominent British archaeologist was married to the English novelist Agatha Christie?

Sir Max Mallowan CBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, a British order of chivalry for his contributions to the arts and sciences, works of charity and support for welfare organizations, plus public service outside the civil service), was a prominent British archaeologist, specializing in ancient Middle Eastern history. He was the second husband of Dame Agatha Christie. When he died, he was interred alongside her, in the churchyard of St. Mary’s, Cholsey. He was born in 1904 and died in 1978.

Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, DBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for her contributions to literature) was an English writer known for her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, particularly those revolving around fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. She was born in 1890 and died in 1976.

She was first married to Archibald Christie in 1914, divorced in 1928 and then married to Max Mallowan in 1930. When Christie died in 1976, Mallowan married Barbara Hastings’s Parker (1908-1993), an English archaeologist.

Mallowan and Christie first met in 1925 when he was an apprentice to Leonard Woolley at the archaeological site of Ur, which was thought to be the capital of Mesopotamian civilization. They were married that same year.

After serving in WWII, in 1947, he was appointed Professor of Western Asiatic Archaeology at the University of London.
