‘Great Balls of Fire’ is a 1957 popular song recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis (born 1935), an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. The song was written by Otis Blackwell (1931-2002) and Jack Hammer (1925-2016) and plays for a length of 1:52. The song sold one million copies in its first 10 days of release in the United States, making it one of the best-selling singles at that time. The B-side of the single featured ‘You Win Again’.

A pioneer of rock and roll and rockabilly music, Lewis is considered one of the most influential pianists of the 20th century who has been active since 1949.

His rock and roll career faltered however when he married Myra Gale Brown, his 13-year-old cousin, once removed.

In 1982, Murray M. Silver Jr. (1953), an American rock music writer and photographer, published his book, ‘Great Balls of Fire: The Uncensored Story of Jerry Lee Lewis’, written with Lewis’ ex-wife Myra Gale Brown (1944). Their book subsequently was adapted into the film ‘Great Balls of Fire!’ in 1989, starring Dennis Quaid (born 1954).

Lewis was an incendiary showman who often played the piano with his fists, elbows, feet and backside, sometimes climbing on top of the piano during gigs and apocryphally setting it on fire.
