Collaborations on songs between Burt Bacharach and Hal David, for song recordings to be sung by Dionne Warwick include: “I Say a Little Prayer”, originally recorded by Warwick and released in the fall of 1967; "Do You Know the Way to San Jose", a 1968 popular song, selling several million copies worldwide and winning Warwick her first Grammy Award; and "Alfie", Warwick's version which was released in March 1967.

The song "I've Never Love This Way Again" is a song that Will Jennings wrote with Richard Kerr, who first recorded the song on his 1978 album "Welcome To The Club". Before "I've Never Love This Way Again" was a hit for Warwick, the "Charlie's Angels" actress Cheryl Ladd recorded it on her 1978 self-titled album. Her version didn't chart, and the next artist to record the song was the country singer Billie Jo Spears. Warwick recorded the song after Spears, and her version became the hit.

Warwick's version of the song won her the 1979 Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. This song was also Warwick's first single on the Arista Records Label.

It reached No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 6 in Canada, also peaking at No. 18 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It would sell over one million copies.
