Which specialist should keep clients' information confidential by law?
Physician–patient privilege is a legal concept, related to medical confidentiality, that protects communications between a patient and their doctor from being used against the patient in court. It is a part of the rules of evidence in many common law jurisdictions.
Almost every jurisdiction that recognizes physician–patient privilege not to testify in court, either by statute or through case law, limits the privilege to knowledge acquired during the course of providing medical services. In some jurisdictions, conversations between a patient and physician may be privileged in both criminal and civil courts.

Lisa Rodrigues, most doctors (certainly in the UK) don’t have clients either. They have patients. Doctors are employed by hospitals - very few run private practices and charge patients directly.

There are essentially 3 exceptions to the HIPAA mandate about PHI (Protected Health Information)--to ensure proper treatment, to address insurance requests, and to ensure public health and safety. Typically, such an excepted release of information requires specific documentation in the chart and an office log, notification to the patient and the release of the minimum information necessary.
Most Americans have signed HIPAA notifications about these matters when they have seen a doctor or dentist--we just don't read them because they are always too long and detailed.

Carl Belken, as a retired nurse, I hated the Hippa law because couldn't give needed information to patients families. I never divulged patient information unnecessarily anyway. The law just added more stress

No mention of the HIPPA law in the explanation. Medical personell can be fined up to $25,000 for revealing a patients info.
Somehow this law don't seem to apply to celebrities and politicians. Perhaps the media pays the fines for the people who provide that info.

Teachers do not have clients, but they do owe their students confidentiality! If you, or your child, had a learning disability would you want hear it being discussed in the grocery store with someone else??

To everyone who said "teachers" should be correct... no it isn't. Teachers do not have clients. We are not hired by the students and we do not receive payment from the students. We work for the schools.
