The gentleman in the picture is Jack Newton an Australian Golfer in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1975 he was runner up to Tom Watson in a playoff in the "Open Championship at Carnoustie in Scotland.

In 1979 Jack Newton won the "PGA Tour of Australia's Order of Merit. Then in 1983, a freak airplane accident changed his life forever. He walked into a spinning propeller of a Cessna 210 plane. The propeller chopped his right arm off, cut deep into his stomach. The local hospital initially thought they might be able to save his arm. Unfortunately, they were unable to achieve this, Jack also lost sight in his right eye.

After months spent in hospital and on rehabilitation, he returned to his family. He realized that golf was no longer a career path. Jack looked for new challenges, he became a golf commentator.

Jack Newton's importance and influence on Australian golf, is what he set up for junior golf in Australia. The program started in New South Wales, where he started junior golf tournaments throughout the year. Two junior golfers who went through this program, many golf fans would know, Karee Webb and Jason Day.

On the 11th of June 2007, Jack Newton was awarded the "Medal of the Order of Australia for Services to golf" (through youth development and fundraising roles).

On the 13th of October 2016, Jack was inducted as a "general member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame" (this recognized his efforts in the development of Junior golfers).
