Which sport has a "touchdown"?

A touchdown is a scoring play in North American Football. Whether running, passing, returning a kickoff or punt, or recovering a turnover, a team scores a touchdown by advancing the ball into the opponent's end zone.

The touchdown is scored the instant the ball touches or "breaks" the plane of the goal line (that is, if any part of the ball is in the space on, above, or across the goal line) while in possession of a player whose team is trying to score in that end zone.

A touchdown is worth six points. The scoring team is also awarded the opportunity for an extra point or a two-point conversion. Afterwards, the team that scored the touchdown kicks off to the opposing team, if there is any time left in the half.

The officials' hand signal for a touchdown is both arms extended vertically above the head, with palms facing inward—the same signal used for a field goal or conversion.

Are you ready for some of what Americans call football, not to be confused with European football, which Americans call soccer? Doesn't have the same ring to it.

In rugby too. : Rugby Scoring 5 points are scored when you score a touchdown, called a try. This is when you run into the end zone with the ball in your hands and "touch the ball down" for the 5 points. This is how "spiking the football" developed in American gridiron.

American football /Grid Iron 'Touchdown' doesn't sound any different to Rugby's Try, though it is not called Touchdown, certainly sounds the same action the aim is to get the ball over the line where the goal is and as close as possible to the goal so you can convert the ball over the goal post.

John Davies, Not really, outside of the North American continent, it is simply a novelty sport, the only place it is taken really seriously is the USA.
