Which two animals are seen on the Australian Coat of Arms?

The coat of arms is the design on the shield only. The emu and the kangaroo are what is called supporters.

The chook in the bottom left hand corner is a piping shrike, symbol of SA and always seen on our government letterheads here. The black swan represents WA and the lion on the bottom right represents Tasmania (for some reason)

The eagle like bird is actually a piping shrike, as it was once known. Today, the white backed magpie. Sometimes the piping shrike is mistaken for the murray magpie, or mud lark, or magpie lark. The same bird with different regional names. It is the South Australian symbol and a common team name for football sides wearing black and white colours.

The Kangaroo and Emu appear as supporters on the 'unofficial' Australian coat-of-arms that appeared from the 1820s onwards, often with the motto 'Advance Australia' under the shield. This was when the six states of the Commonwealth were British colonies, yet there was a sense that Australia was already one country - this was not actually achieved until Federation on 1 January 1901. The official Commonwealth of Australia coat-of-arms was issued a few years later.
