'Mister Lincoln' won the All-American award in 1965 and it was the best-selling crimson rose in the US for many years. It was created by Herbert and Weeks rose growers in 1964. The stock parent of this rose was the hybrid tea rose cultivars; 'Chrysler Imperial' and 'Charles Mallerin'. The hybrid tea is an informal horticultural classification for a group of garden roses. They were created by cross-breeding two types of roses, initially by hybridizing hybrid perpetuals, the dominant class of roses in Victorian England, and tea roses, the original tea-scented Chinas.

The plant was introduced into the United States via California by Star roses in 1965. Originally, a similar rose named Rose Mohammadi with the same characteristics fragrance was grown in the city of Isfahan in Iran for 100's of years. Mohammadi (Mister Lincoln) rose paddles are used to create rose water used in food, deserts and as room deodorant. 'Mister Lincoln' is a vigorous, tall upright shrub, 4 to 7 ft (121-213 cm) in height. Blooms are very large, 6 in (15 cm) or more diameter, with 30 to 35 petals. The rose has a strong damask fragrance. 'Mister Lincoln' is hardy to 5-9 zone, where in the US, most of the warmer zones are 9,10 and 11. The middle portion of the mainland and central and northern coastal areas are in the middle zones 8,7, and 6. Some of the coldest zones are 5,4, and a small area of 3.
