"The Defenders" is the 1961 - 1965 U.S. TV courtroom drama which is set at the Law Office of Preston & Preston. This TV series was a very well respected action-drama covering 4 seaons and 132 often very controversial episodes. It is E.G. Marshall and Robert Reed who star as Lawrence and Kenneth Preston, a father-and-son team of defense attorneys specializing in complex and challenging cases, many of which explored real-world concerns which were able to resonate with TV audiences. Some of the topics include: abortion, capital punishment, "no-knock" searches, custody rights of adoptive parents, the insanity defense, the "poisoned fruit doctrine", jury nullification, immigration quotas, the Hollywood blacklist, etc.

The series also developed a well-earned reputation as one of the most socially conscious series ever to air on television. Created by Reginald Rose ("Twelve Angry Men"), "The Defenders" was an Emmy award-winning series. The awards made the producers, Bob Markell and George Justin, and the CBS Television Network extremely happy.
