Which US city is served by the BART public transport system?

BART stands for Bay Area Rapid Transit and is a public heavy rail transportation system serving the San Francisco Bay Area. The system includes four routes which total length is 104 ml or 164 km. There is also an additional route to Oakland Airport.

The system serves about 126 million passengers yearly and thus, is number 5 busiest heavy rail rapid transit system in the whole country.

Interestingly, the name of the system is often referred to as an acronym Bart, rather than an abbreviation BART.

There was discussion as regarding what to call the Phoenix area's rapid transit system and PHART was rejected.

I always thought they should have called it the Frisco Area Rapid Transit System. I wonder why they didn't?

Rich McConnell, Because use of the term frisco is discouraged as being negative. But try not to take BART if you can avoid it.

Actually, while serving in the military. I was involved with a major upkeep of a submarine command. Which required the assistance of "Mare Island" in Vallejo, California in getting the job done back in 1989. The "BART" system was always a means of transportation by the crew, throughout their "Bay Area" travels during that time.

T J Wahoo, what the acronym is simply a short abbreviation in representing the word by each alphabet. The military practices this form of communication on a daily basis. The actual abbreviation just simply identifies the word by name.

Im a quality tech. and I always thought a first artcle inspection should be refered to as FART Inspection. But I like Frisco Are Rapid Transit System also. I wonder what other things the acronym could be applied to.
