The US President along with his wife who serve as spokespeople for the non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity are Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. The organization Habitat for Humanity was founded in Americus, Georgia, in 1976, just about 10 miles from the Carters' home in Plains, Georgia, where they have lived since leaving the White House in 1981.

The personal involvement of President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn and the awareness they raised, has resulted in Habitat for Humanity working in all 50 states of the US and in more than 70 countries worldwide. Habitat has helped more than 35 million people achieve strength, stability and independence through decent and affordable housing.

Jimmy Carter (b. October 1924) is a philanthropist, author, and former executive official who served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He served during a time of serious troubles, notable among which was the Iran hostage crisis. His wife Rosalynn Carter (b. August 1927) is a writer and activist who served as a popular first lady of the United States. For decades, she has been a leading advocate for numerous causes, including mental health.

The 39th president told 'The Associated Press' that the couple’s marriage is “a full partnership”. The two met in Georgia when Carter was home from the US Navy Academy. Rosalynn was a family friend who already had a crush on the future Georgia governor and US president. They were married in July 1946, in Plains, GA.
