The first city to host the Summer Olympics twice was Paris, France. The Summer Olympics were specifically hosted in Paris, France in 1900 and 1924. At the first Olympic Games, nine sports were contested. Since its beginning (1896), the number of sports contested at the Summer Olympic has gradually risen to twenty-eight, which occurred with the program for 2000–2008.

Also, it has been stated many times that the main purpose of the Summer Olympics is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport. The sports in the games are practiced without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding and a spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play.

To date, only five countries have participated in every Summer Olympic Games – Australia, France, Great Britain, Greece and Switzerland. The United States is the country that leads the all-time medal table for the Summer Olympics.
