Who created the TV show "Sanford and Son"?

Norman Lear, an American producer and political activist, founded Tandem Productions company together with Bud Yorkin in 1970. Their first show "All in the family"" had an incredible success and ran for 9 seasons! The show earned 4 Emmy Awards as the Best Comedy series and a Peabody Award in 1977. Lear is well-known for a lot of shows following "All in the family", including "Sanford and Son". Sitcoms produced by Lear are regarded as the classics of 1970.

it was originally a British sitcom called Steptoe and son with Wilford Bramble as the crazy father-Norman Lear frequently "borrowed" other peoples ideas-All In the family was also a very popular British sitcom called Till death do us part with Warren Mitchell as Alf Garnett ( who was ten times more offenisvly racist than Archie Bunker ever was-i guess Lear thought we didnt watch BBC television so he could get away with it

docluci, Foxx was the star of the show. It was his idea to name the character Sanford, as that was his original last name.

Richard Schmidt, I believe it's called "Til Death Us Do Part", but I'm quibbling. Good catch; I reported this question because Lear didn't "create" either of these shows, and people need to be educated!

I would think the A would direct the commentary on the Q asked, rather than Lear's other projects. What were the character names? What was the background? Ah, maybe junkyard? What were the supporting characters and the actors who played them? How long did it run? Blkstang - up your game!
