Who had a hit with "Rock Around The Clock"?

"Rock Around the Clock" is a rock and roll song in the 12-bar blues format written by Max C. Freedman and James E. Myers (the latter being under the pseudonym "Jimmy De Knight") in 1952. The best-known and most successful rendition was recorded by Bill Haley & His Comets in 1954 for American Decca. It was a number one single on both the United States and United Kingdom charts and also reentered the UK Singles Chart in the 1960s and 1970s.

Haley's recording nevertheless became an anthem for rebellious 1950s youth and is widely considered to be the song that, more than any other, brought rock and roll into mainstream culture around the world. The song is ranked No. 158 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

I remember when that song came out ..I was in elementary school then...early 1950's Yikes I am so freaking old too.

I was about seven when my dad took my brother and I to the movie Blackboard Jungle. When it started, this song/music blasted out a loud drum hit and "1-2-3 & 4 o'clock rock!" over the theater sound system and scared me to death!! I asked my dad if we could leave! People were jumping out if their seats, yelling and stomping their feet! The lights in the theater came on, the movie stopped. Then an announcement was made to settle or be removed. The movie was restarted. I dont recall much about the movie, but I have never forgot that experience and first time hearing rock 'n roll music. A few years later Elvis came on the scene and blew us all away😉 and then I understood.

Colin McPherson, That was The Twist. Never did get that dance down pat. Took belly dancing as an adult and could move my hips fine for that, but still couldn't do the Twist.
