Shortstop (James) Dansby Swanson is a graduate of Marietta High School in NW suburban Atlanta (Cobb County). The Colorado Rockies drafted Swanson out of high school (2012), but he passed, instead attending Vanderbilt on baseball scholarship. In 2014 Vandy won the College World Series (CWS) against Virginia; Swanson was named the 2014 CWS Outstanding Player.

After graduation (2015) Swanson was drafted again, this time by the Arizona Diamondbacks. After getting hit in the face by an errant pitch in a simulated game, Swanson would only play 22 games of his rookie year with a farm team for the D'backs, who traded Swanson to his hometown Braves the next season. After playing with farm teams Swanson made his big league debut August 17 against the Minnesota Twins with 2 hits at 4 at-bats. On September 6 against the Washington Nationals he would score an inside the park home run, the Braves' first since 2001.

Swanson's first Braves season (2016) was the team's last of 51 of home games in downtown Atlanta; the next year the Braves took new home digs in Swanson's home county (Cobb) but closer to the NW Atlanta city limits.

Fast forward to October 30, 2021. Swanson hit the game-tying home run in Game 4 of the 2021 World Series against the Houston Astros. Jorge Soler followed with a solo home run to provide the Braves a 3-1 lead in the World Series. After losing Game 5 the Braves clinched the Series with a 7-run shutout; Swanson hit 2 RBIs (run batted in) in the 5th inning.
