Mao Zedong December 26, 1893 – September 9, 1976), also known as Chairman Mao, was a Chinese communist revolutionary who became the founding father of the People's Republic of China (PRC), which he ruled as the Chairman of the Communist Party of China from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976. Ideologically a Marxist–Leninist, his theories, military strategies, and political policies are collectively known as Maoism.
Many of his strageties were short sighted and born of a need to be considered as a equal to other world leaders. He formed despotic regimes which treated people with high ancestry as traitors with very harsh punishments. His great leap forward included the one child birth policy which now has been relaxed. He also instructed every man woman and child to shoot the many birds which he felt were destroying China's agriculture . Citizens were rewarded with a small amount of money for every bird they stoned shot at or otherwise killed a while later it was discovered the crops had failed anyway , the aphids locusts and other pests had decimated the crops because the birds , an integral element in the food chain had been wiped out .
Widespread famine ensued over China's Cantons
