Ozzie and Harriet's older son, David, was born on October 24, 1936 in New York City. David died Jan. 11, 2011 from complication of colon cancer.

Eric Hilliard Nelson, known professionally as Ricky Nelson, was an American pop star, musician, actor, and song writer was David's younger brother. David Nelson; younger brother", Ricky"; his dad, Ozzie; and mom, Harriet, starred in the radio and TV series "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet."

David attended Hollywood High School. He later was a film producer (The Nelson Co.) and director, who directed several episodes of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952) and made appearances in movies and TV shows including Smash-Up on Interstate 5 (1976) (in which his mother singer-actress Harriet Nelson, appeared with him), The Big Circus (1959), High School U.S.A. (1983) and Up in Smoke (1978) (as a doorman at the Roxy) , while his directing credits included Childish Things (1969), Death Screams (1982), Last Plane Out (1983), and Rare Breed (1984). His last on-screen appearance was in John Waters's Cry-Baby (1990).

He was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1996 (star at 1501Vine Street).
