Who is the only U.S. President to serve more than 2 terms (8 years)?
Franklin Roosevelt's time in office was limited to 12 years and 39 days because of his death on the 12th of April, 1945. The president was suffering from a brain hemorrhage, and the rumors about his bad health followed him during his campaign. Anyway, Roosevelt tried to dispel the rumors and finally won a fourth term. But he had no opportunity to serve 16 years he was elected for.

It's funny how Congress thought term limits were necessary for the President, but not for themselves. They will never legislate limits for themselves. Power is intoxicating and they're all drunk with it.

Scott Wright That's not a bad idea, Scott. They have set up for themselves, a much better system for medical coverage and have isolated themselves from the people. They are far too comfortable. If we were all in the same boat, things would improve at lightening speed. We should have a constitutional amendment guaranteeing that Congress gets no more federal benefits than average Americans do.

Philippe Delmar That is untrue. Congress decided a President shall not serve more than 2 terms or no more than 8 years. We do not have the option to re-elect a president for a third term as we do for congressmen. That is a term limit. There are no such restrictions on how many terms a congressman may serve. Some congressmen have served more than 59 years. Seven have served more than 50 years. If it was such a good idea regarding the presidency, why not for congressmen? Or if congressmen have no such restrictions, why then does the presidency? It's either a good idea for all or its not a good idea at all.

Roosevelt (FDR) was a war time president. It's funny how quickly ( or were never taught ) people forget how important this man was. We entered WW II
at the very end of 1941. It took 3 1/2 years to wrap it up. Truman was never meant to be a president. Eisenhower tried to warn us about the " military industrial complex " And they murdered our only chances of peace in our time.
JFK & RFK. you all deserve what you have now. I feel so sorry for this once great nation.

Agree that Congress needs term limits, so that they can get "regular" jobs, and struggle like the rest of us.

I find it interesting that the DC memorial shows Franklin in a wheel chair when in life he made sure that the public never saw his crutches much less a wheel chair! He never allowed any hint of being less than fully healthy, even using his son’s arm to walk into the convention hall to accept the nomination. Eleanor was his eyes and ears to the nation and the war, it is said that he taught her how to see/ask question/find the truth about whatever venue she was visiting so that she could inform Franklin. Amazing political couple if this is true.

williamrlaughlin, You bet! They love that "socialized medicine" they've given themselves, while denying it to the rest of us, and the many other great percs they've voted themselves over the years, to say nothing of the great jobs some might get with the lobbyists they voted for, after their retirement from "serving the people".

Even though FDR did a good job, I'm all for the two-term term limits. The other two branches need them too.

williamrlaughlin, True. Congressional term limits will require a long-everdue constitutional amendment.

To give the Mayor of Linden credit, his name is Richard J. Gerbounka. I meant to include it in the first entry. Thank you, Christine, James's wife

Michael Hess, The "Union News Daily" reports that the 2007-2014 mayor of Linden, New Jersey, USA, lowered his salary from $140,000.00 to $70,000.00. He had been a police chief in the town. Several Presidents of the United States have not taken a salary. Would the Congress and Senate members, whose families have businesses, do one of those? Thank you, Christine, James's wife

Why do you think he orchestrated
1) America’s late entry into WW II?!
2) the Great Ponzi Scheme against American retirees? That’ll be Social Security
