Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Her mother was a film-cutter at RKO Studios who, widowed and mentally ill, abandoned her to a sequence of foster homes. She was almost smothered to death at two, nearly raped at six. At nine, the LA Orphans' Home paid her a nickel a month for kitchen work while taking back a penny every Sunday for church...We can go on for pages about Norma Jeane as she truly was "a candle in the wind."

So what the heck is not fair? You knew she was Norma Jean and you knew that she would change her name eventually to Marilyn Monroe, but because the picture was take as Norma Jean you couldn't answer Marilyn Monroe because it defied some sense of OCD that you have? Totally fair!

I knew this one for sure. I had seen this photograph before in a book her sister wrote. I think it was called "My Sister Marilyn". Actually Marilyn's sister had her daughter write the book for her. Her hairline is unmistakable. This was how it looked before she had it changed. I don't know if they had electrolysis back then but whatever she had, it was permanent. I thought Marilyn was even more beautiful then.
