Maureen O'Hara was an Irish-American actress and singer. O'Hara was known for her passionate but sensible heroines. Her image of an energetic, red-headed and always smiling woman made O'Hara one of the true icons of the Hollywood Golden Age.

O'Hara grew up in the Dublin suburb of Ranelagh to an "eccentric" devout Catholic family, and dreamed of becoming an actress from a very young age. She studied the theatrics with the Rathmines Theatre Company from the age of 10 and at the Abbey Theatre from the age of 14.

She moved to Hollywood in 1939 to appear in the production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Charles Laughton, who had always seen O'Hara's potential. From there, she began her long, distinguished and highly successful career.
