The mentally unbalanced politician that Christopher Walken's character (Johnny Smith) must stop in the 1983 American science-fiction thriller film "The Dead Zone" is Martin Sheen. Sheen plays Gregory Ammas Stillson (Gregory Stillson), a politician and future United States President whose rise to power will eventually bring on Armageddon. He is the main antagonist of Johnny Smith.

In the film, following the publication of photographs showing Stillson using a child as a shield from Smith's attack, Stillson commits suicide. Smith is able to prevent the apocalyptic vision he had about Stillson. He had his vision when he had shook hands with Stillson.
