'The Inn of the Sixth Happiness' is a 1958 British biographical film directed by Mark Robson. It is based on the 1957 novel 'The Small Woman' by Alan Burgess, which is based on the true story of Gladys Aylward (1902-1970), a British woman, who became a missionary in China during the 1930s.

Ingrid Bergman (1915-1982) starred in the film as the main character, Gladys Aylward. Despite being set in China, the film was shot in Snowdonia, North Wales. 'The Inn of the Sixth Happiness' was the second most popular film at the British box office in 1959, the first being 'Carry on Nurse'.

Gladys Aylward was deeply upset by the inaccuracy of the film. She was mortified by her depiction in the film. The tall, Swedish Ingrid Bergman was inconsistent with Aylward's small stature, dark hair and cockney accent.

Ingrid Bergman starred in a variety of European and American films over a 50 year acting career. She is often regarded as one of the most influential screen figures in cinematic history. Bergman won several awards including three Academy Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, four Golden Globe Awards, and a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award.
