The 2021 Nobel Peace Prize was announced by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo on 8th October 2021. Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov received the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize ‘for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace’. The Norwegian News Agency reported earlier in 2021 that Ressa had been nominated by Jonas Gahr Støre, the designated Prime Minister following the 2021 election.

Born 2nd October 1963, Maria Angelita Ressa is a Filipino-American journalist and author, the co-founder and CEO of Rappler, and the first Filipino Nobel Prize laureate. She previously spent nearly two decades working as a lead investigative reporter in Southeast Asia for CNN.

Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov, born on 30th October 1961, is a Russian journalist, television presenter and the editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Oslo on 10th December 2021.
