"Give me Liberty, or give me Death!" is famous quotation attributed to Patrick Henry near the start of the American Revolution. This speech, being Patrick Henry's most lasting legacy, is also one of the best exponents of both the reason and the passion of the American War of Independence. This inspiring call to arms held that the war had already begun in the eyes of the British soldiers, and sought to disillusion any who still hoped for peace through submission to the rule of the crown. The speech was given on the 23rd of March, 1775 from the floor of the Second Virginia Convention being held at St. John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia.

The speech was first published in the Port Folio magazine in 1815. It is translated in various nationalist contexts.
