Fanny Brice, born Fannie Borach (1891-1951), was a popular American singing comedienne. Brice first appeared at age 13 in a talent contest in Brooklyn where she won first prize singing, 'When You Know You’re Not Forgotten by the Girl You Can’t Forget'. In 1910 F. Ziegfeld heard Brice singing in a burlesque house and made her a headliner in his 'Follies' of that year. Her comic routines and parodies were highly popular.

In 1918, Brice married professional gambler Julius W. "Nicky" Arnstein. In 1924, Arnstein was charged in a Wall Street bond theft. Brice insisted on his innocence and funded his legal defense to great financial expense and heartache which eventually ended in divorce.

Brice also appeared in a few motion pictures, including 'My Man', 'Be Yourself!' & 'The Great Ziegfeld'. During her stage career, Brice appeared with W.C. Fields, Eddie Cantor & Will Rogers on stage. She introduced the character of 'Baby Snooks', a mischievous brat she had first played in vaudeville. 'Baby Snooks' became a 'Follies' favorite, and in that character, Brice was featured on the radio from 1936 until her death.

Her life was the subject of the film 'Rose of Washington Square'. Many years after her death, Brice was portrayed on the Broadway stage by Barbra Streisand in 1964 musical 'Funny Girl'. Streisand also starred in its 1968 film adaptation, for which she won an Oscar, and in the 1975 sequel, 'Funny Lady'. Brice was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
