Katherine Noel Valentine Brosnahan Spade (12/24/1962-6/5/2018 Kansas City, Missouri) was an American fashion designer and entrepreneur. She was the founder and former co-owner of the designer brand Kate Spade New York.

Kate Spade New York is an American luxury fashion design house founded in January 1993. Andy Spade (her husband) was also a co-founder of the brand. Jack Spade is the brand's line for men. Kate Spade New York competes with house of Michael Kors, a subsidiary of Versace. In 2017, the company was purchased by, and now is part of, Tapestry, Inc. formally known as Coach for $2.4 billion.

After completing her education (majoring in journalism) at Arizona State University (where she met Andy Spade) the couple moved to New York City in 1986. It was in New York that Katherine worked as style editor for "Mademoiselle" (was a women's magazine). In 1991, while working for "Mademoiselle", Spade had noticed that the fashion market lacked stylish, affordable and sensible handbags and decided to create her own.

Kate Spade New York markets not only handbags, but, clothing, jewelry, shoes, stationary, eyewear, baby items, fragrances, and gifts.

Actor David Spade, known for the comedy movie, "Joe Dirt" (2001), and for being a past member of the cast of "Saturday Night Live" (1990), was her famous brother-in-law.
