Who was Nicholas Winton?

Amazing how the world has adapted to what is considered Nobel ,and newsworthy. A man of this character is unknown by most, yet accomplished something that makes all else pale by comparison...

I remember seeing a tv program when this lovely man was surprised to be told he was surrounded by people he had saved.

This story should not be considered trivia. This should be a leading example of heroism and honor for at least the entire Western world. Why am I just now learning of this man’s example of humanity on QC? He should be as famous and as admired as Schindler.

A long life and a modest man, the This Is Your Life Programme was memorable. He didn't know it at first, but the entire audience comprised of 'his' children.

Obviously a honorable, humble man since this became to be known 40 years later. My respect, Mr. Winton.

I recently read an article about him. One of the kids that he rescued was in her late 80’s and told how they were snuck out of the country. He was a great man.

106 years... At school, he had become an outstanding fencer and he was selected for the British team in 1938. He had hoped to compete in the next Olympics, but the games were cancelled because of the war

There are also German Nazi officers who risk their lives rescuing hundreds of Jews. One such officer is Karl plagge, a German army officer. Another one was wilm hosenfeld. Who risen to captain in Nazi German occupied Poland that help pianist wladyslaw szpilman to survive portrayed in the movie the pianist. Saved polish and Jewish citizens in the last month of 1944. Not all Germans are bad, same goes to some Japanese officers during WW2. Stories that are so hard to believe, if you do not know it.

British Schindler!!!

We may not know of him and his deeds but God surely knows the true heart of humans,every act good or bad has been faitfully recorded for judgement day,that is why we are cautioned by God not to judge,lest we judge unrighteously,because we dont know the true character of anybody.

He lived til 105. The lord blessed him with the gift of a long life for his wonderful deeds. Rest in peace Sir.

Schindler accomplished something totally different from Winton. His effort and saving of at least 1000 Jews occurred during the Holocaust and is to be remembered as such. Winton's was another act of heroism - yes the saving of some 669 children in 1938/9 - pre war - the Czech children, as part of the British Government's agreement to accept some 10,000 Jewish children in what was known as the kindertransport. The children were rescued from Germany, Austria as well as Czechoslovakia, which Winton handled. I have met and interviewed many kinder, including several of Winton's children. Some of them talked about the bravery of their parents, who sent their children on the kindertransports, because they knew that that they would probably never see their children again. Most of them didn't.

People do increadable acts of bravery in all aspects of life not be recognised but because it is their character. There are many many people walking amongst us that perform these selfless acts on a daily baisis however they are too humble to even think of being recognised.
