While many believe Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman; 24 May 1941) was the first “songwriter” to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, that distinction arguably best applies to Rabindranath Tagore (born Rabindranath Thakur, 7 May 1861 - 7 August 1941).

He was an Indian polymath - poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter who won the prize in 1913. Much like Dylan, Tagore worked across multiple genres, including poetry, and composed roughly 2,000 songs, many of which remain popular today.
