Pavlina (Paulina) Porizkova was born on April 9, 1965 in Prostejov, Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic). She is a model, actress, writer and director; known for 'Thursday' (1998), 'Her Alibi' (1989), Arizona Dream' (1993), 'The Adventures of Ralphie the Roach' (1992) and 'A Model Summer' (2007).

When she was 3, her parents fled Czechoslovakia for Lund, Sweden. She stayed with her grandmother to be brought to Sweden later, which wasn't allowed by the Communist regime at that time. Their family was finally reunited after 6 years. Soon after her father left the family and her parents divorced.

John Casablancas, the internationally known model agency chief, encouraged the 15-year-old Paulina to go to Paris in 1980, whereafter she went to the US in 1982 for modeling.

In 1984, she became the first woman from Central Europe to be on the cover of the 'Sports Illustrated' swimsuit issue. She appeared on its cover again in 1985. In 1988, 'Estée Lauder' offered her the highest-paying modeling contract ($6 million) at that time. After seven years, she was replaced by Elizabeth Hurley.

Paulina, at 19, met Ric Ocasek; lead vocalist for The Cars, when she starred in the music video for "Drive" (1984). They married in St Barthelemy 5 years later on 23 August, 1989 and they had two sons. In May 2018, Porizkova announced she and Ocasek had separated in 2017, although their divorce wasn't finalized. On September 15, 2019, she found Ocasek, 75, dead in his New York townhouse.
