Andrea Hollen was the first female graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point. She graduated No. 10 in her class. In May 1980, sixty two (62) women walked across Michie Stadium to graduate from West Point. They became second lieutenants in the Army and made history in the process.

Andrea Hollen served for almost 12 years as an active duty Signal Officer in the United States Army; she considered leading soldiers a singular privilege. She held tactical positions as a company commander with the 3rd Infantry Division in Europe. She obtained a BS in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a BA in Modern History and Modern Languages from Oxford University, England, and an MPA from New York University, where she was a Reynolds Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship.

Hollen resigned from the Army in 1992 because of a job opportunity and to live a personal life without certain military restrictions.
