The world-known beverage was invented in 1886 by the pharmacist Dr. John Pemberton. Originally, the drink was claimed to be a remedy for depression, nervous breakdown and stomach sickness. That's why it contained cocaine and caffeine in its formula: the addictive substance contributed to abatement of pain while caffeine redoubled the effect. Actually, the words "Coca Cola" are the combination of the names of two main ingredients: Coca and Cola plants.
