As it comes in Greek mythology, the giant Enceladus is the son of Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Sky). During the war between giants and gods, Enceladus fought Athena. Some sources say the giant was struck down by Zeus, while others say Athena hurled the island of Sicily at the giant, making Mount Etna Enceladus’s burial location. As ancient Greek believed, Mount Etna's eruptions were the breath of Enceladus, and its tremors were caused by him rolling over from side to side beneath the mountain.

Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare. She was regarded as the patron and protectress of various cities across Greece, particularly the city of Athens. Her major symbols include owls, olive trees, snakes, and the Gorgoneion. In art, she is generally depicted wearing a helmet and holding a spear.
