"Gorffwysfa" is the official residence of which political leader?
"Gorffwysfa" is more or less the equivalent of "mon repos" in the Welsh language - a resting place. It is the original name of the official residence of the Prime Minister of Canada, located in the New Edinburgh neighbourhood of Ottawa, Ontario. Partly because of the difficulty of pronouncing Welsh it is now usually referred to more prosaically as 24 Sussex Drive. Built between 1866 and 1868 by Joseph Merrill Currier, Gorffwysfa has been the Prime Minister's official home since 1951. It is one of two official residences made available to the prime minister, the Harrington Lake estate in nearby Gatineau Park being the other.

Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I have lived in Canada for 72 years, have always known of the Prime Minister's residence; 24 Sussex Drive. And today I learn it has an official, but liitle known name. Excellent question. I recognized Gorffwysfa as a Welsh word but just didn't know it applied to Canada.

Good question. Among the options, Canada was my 4th choice. Looked Welsh to me. Very counterintuitive answer. Learned something with this one.

But our current Canadian prime minister has not lived there for years - not sure that still makes it an official residence. His present home is on the grounds of Rideau Hall.
