How many events are there in a decathlon?
The decathlon is the oldest Olympic event of the three, introduced in the 1912 Stockholm Summer Games. The competitors are to do their best in a great number of track-and-field events. Their agility, endurance, power and, of course, speed are tested. After a set of event the best athlete is determined.
It consists of four track and six field events, a total of 10 events. Competitions include 100-meter sprint, 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter event, 1500-meter event, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and pole vault. There is no decathlon for women in the Olympics.
