How many pounds in a short ton?

To avoid any confusion, the 2240 lb ton (UK) is called a "long ton" and the 2000 lb ton (US) - a "short ton"; the tonne (2204.6 lb) is distinguished by its spelling, but usually pronounced the same as ton.

matthew rosa, Me too Never heard of short ton used in American tonnage. Was always thought the only ton is 2000lbs. And no. We aren't fa from other countries. We just happen to use a different system in measurements. On tonnage though it should be the same every where. Or explain it better in the question. I stand by that my answer is right. A short ton is 1960. Not 2000.
