There have been only three times where unscheduled closures have happened, the first was in 1963, after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The second was in 1994, after the Northridge Earthquake that also forced closures on other theme parks nearby like Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios, and Six Flags Magic Mountain. These closures were only for inspections, no major damage occurred at these parks. The most recent unplanned closure was on September 11, 2001 due to the terrorist attacks that day. Unlike the parks at Walt Disney World, which had to close after they had begun operations for the day, Disneyland and then new Disney's California Adventure never opened that day due to the time difference
