Now, as the raw statistics of violence are being counted for 1993, it appears that Gary has earned the dubious title of murder capital of the nation.
The city of 119,125 had a record 110 killings in 1993, translating into a murder rate of 91 per 100,000 residents. That's well above the homicide rate in Washington, D.C., which has led the nation in recent years.
Chicago, which last year saw 852 killings, had a murder rate of 30.6 per 100,000 people. Within the city, only the Harrison Police District on the West Side, where 90 people were slain through November, had a higher murder rate than Gary.

The term “rate” is the quantity compared to some other known unit. Do you think that they have an accurate count of the people in these cities…. Really? People can’t count.

I only got this right because I recently read an article about the worst things about each of the states. Arkansas' was their murder rate.

I sthere an actual significance to questions like these? What happened in 1993? I don't really care s far as murder rates go. I care what's happening today in 2023. It's like this all the time in NYC. The mayor and police commissioner are always telling us not to worry or complain-vilolent crimes are way down from 1982 levels. We're talking 2023. And we all know the hide the stats any way.

The correct answer is Gary, Indiana which was not a choice given for this question. And Gary is only 3 miles from Chicago. Get the facts straight.

The question doesn't supply a proper answer. 76 is not a rate it is a number of homicides. The rate is 76 divided by the population.

The correct answer is Gary, Indiana. I got it wrong because I chose Chicago since it was the closest city to Gary!

That seems like the least likely answer of the four. I said Chicago.
