Jacob Grimm was a German philologist, lawyer and writer. He is known as the discoverer of an important linguistic law aka Grimm's law.

Most people know him as one of the legendary Brothers Grimm as he and his brother Wilhelm were the editors of Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Trick question. He was a lot of things. Philogist was just one of them.

I am familiar with their works. They were more than editors, they were authors ( literary) the wording of this question and paragraph( I believe) are misleading and inaccurate. They may have very well been philologists as many writers have been. Nevertheless, that was not for what the Grimm's brothers were famous. Some of you writers could stand to do a little more research.
