John Wayne has portrayed many a man in uniform. Of all the US Armed Forces, which one, if any, has he NOT portrayed?

The Duke, so named for his constant youthful canine companion, was never portrayed as a Coast Guardsman. He played a Cold-War Air Force Colonel in "Jet Pilot," opposite Janet Leigh, a gruff Marine Corps Sergeant John Stryker in "Sands of Iwo Jima," as well as Major Kirby in "Flying Leathernecks," numerous Naval Officers and innumerable US Army (including Cavalry) officers.

John Wayne never served in the military, initially classified III-A (family deferment) and because of his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor). He was accepted into the OSS (Office of Strategic Services), but never got the letter, because it was sent to a former wife. This inability to serve was what led to his "superpatriot" status throughout his latter years.

Thelma Thornton Yours is a common complaint from people outside the US. In answer to your question, there are more questions relating to US topics because more Americans are submitting questions. If it bothers you so much, and apparently it does, why don't you submit some questions of your own to broaden the range of questions. A lot of people complain like you have, It's easy; anyone can complain, but few actually take the initiative to change things they don't like. By the way, do not flatter yourself or worry about knowing more about the USA than US citizens do. You don't. You don't even seem to know how this quiz site works.

As many other people have remarked that John Wayne was not a good human being. He was definitely a white supremacist, by his own words, as he was a bigot and an anti-semite. He was a heavy supporter of McCarthyism and commented against Blacks, Native Americans and Gay People.

drmaldonado, I have not reviewed questions in a while, due to time constraints. Often, if I tried to correct a fact in the explanation, QuizzClub responded that other players had passed the question. I do not know that we can be certain that reviewers did not try to reject the question. I checked the accompanying article. It did not clearly state the divisions of service he once portrayed. He was also re-classified as 1-A, fit for duty, but the movie studios begged for 2-A status, meaning more important at home for US morale, thus securing boos during USO shows as a draft dodger.
