Likud is an Israeli center-right political party, which was formed right before the 1973 elections. Since its establishment Likud enjoyed great support from blue-collar Sephardim who felt discriminated against by the ruling Alignment. As Likud was formed from a group of left and right-wing parties, it was necessary to chose the leading party. Herut was chosen the head of the new party. Likud is translated as “The Consolidation”, and Herut means "Freedom Movement". Herut was formed back in 1948.
